Borrow Don’t Buy

Library of Things, Benthyg is a wonderful initiative set up in Wales that allows people to borrow what they need at a low cost, instead of buying it at full price and it’s now coming to Rumney. Benthyg has hundreds of items for anyone to borrow including; camping equipment, DIY and gardening tools, gazebos etc. Projects like Benthyg encourages less waste, which is great for the environment and also benefits the community.

The Restoration of Puma

Bute Parks team have been raising money to restore the beloved ‘Puma the Warthog’ back to its former glory. The team needs £6,165 to fully repair it and to install measures that will keep me safe in the future. It’ll be a great addition to Bute Park and something the community will love.

Sibling Pair Turn Old Brothel into Stunning New Cafe

A brother and sister duo have turned a former brothel into a stylish coffee and wine bar, with months of renovations and dedication paying off. After being a brothel for 25 years, siblings Georgie and William have already gained a great customer base and is quickly becoming a popular statement in Pontcanna.

Betty Campbell Honoured in Bronze

A statue of Betty Campbell was unveiled in Cardiff at the end of September in honour of her amazing lifetime achievements, one of which was becoming Wales’ first black head teacher. This four-metre high statue stands proudly in Cardiff’s Central square.

Llandaff Fields Playgrounds gets a Makeover

The popular play area in Llandaff Fields is getting a revamp, with some brand new equipment. Using ideas submitted by pupils of local primary schools, the council will turn the play area into a new feature, adding three large new slides, climbing nets, climbing rope and large stepping stones. A perfect addition to the community.

Hek Jones Solicitors have won a Cardiff Life Award, in the Legal and Financial Category. Situated on Cathedral Road in Pontcanna, they are said to have grown their portfolio of work throughout 2020, and now take on over 450 files of clients on average each month.

Driving 400 miles for Wales Air Ambulance

Retired Ed Griffiths drove 400 miles in his MGC GT classic car to all four of the Welsh Air Ambulances bases at Llanelli, Caernarfon, Welshpool and Cardiff in 24 hours. Ed is hoping to raise a minimum of £2000.

Affordable Vet Practice Opened at Cardiff Dogs Home

A new vet practice has officially opened at Cardiff Dogs Home, offering affordable car. Partnered with Rescue Hotel, the scheme aims to keep prices as affordable as possible so customers can get treatment for their canines which they may not have been able to afford elsewhere.

Amy Adams, who owns the store Studio Muse, who Vegan Beauty Product Retailer of the Year 2021/22 at the Wales Prestige Awards. Situated at 1A Pontcanna Street, Amy’s passion for vegan products and floristry has taken the industry by storm, proving very popular amongst the Pontcanna community.
